Lincoln Forest opponents say plan is bad for community

Not everyone in the Bayfield County Town of Lincoln is enthusiastic at the prospect of creating a 400-acre community forest.

The Bayfield Regional Conservancy purchased the property from the Plum Creek Timber Company in December. Funds for the $673,000 purchase came from matching grants from the U.S. Forest Service Community Forestry Program and the state of Wisconsin’s Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund administered by the Department of Natural Resources.
